A partnership between Viacom International Media Networks (VIMN), MTV Staying Alive Foundation, Unitaid and the London School of Hygiene and tropical medicine has brought back season 2 of the much loved MTV Shuga Down South.

sapositivenews.com has revealed that the cast of the new season sees the return of some of season 1 cast members such as Thuso Mbedu and Jemima Osunde of MTV Shuga Naija.

The first season aired in 2017 and season 2 is coming on February 12, 2019. “The movement was created out of a passionate and purpose driven vision”, said VIMN Africa’s Communications Director Fatima Beckham. “The 3 year partnership has been created to introduce and evaluate story-lines on HIV innovation including HIV self testing and preventative drugs into the award winning MTV drama series Shuga”, she added.

Alex Okosi, VIMN Africa Managing Director says MTV Shuga has been an incredible powerful movement. “What’s really powerful about Shuga is that it’s not just a drama series but was crafted to be something that would resonate with our young viewers who watch our channels. It has an amazing storyline and relatable characters dealing with tough issues that young people face but deals with it in a very authentic way”.

2018 Royalty Soapie Awards winners

The winners at the 3rd Annual Royalty Soapie Awards were revealed at an event hosted by the remarkable South Africa comedian, Mpho Pops.

For the past two years the awards were hosted by the City of Durban (eThekwini Municipality) in KZN and now for the first time, the awards were held, Wednesday on 14 November in Gauteng’s City of Ekurhuleni at Emperors Palace.

“We are very excited that we were able to bring the awards to Johannesburg. We hosted the awards successfully in the sunny City of Durban for 2 years and being able to bring the awards to the City of Gold has made the awards fully inclusive. We are hoping to take the awards to a new city every 2 to 3 years to ensure we leave our footprint in different regions.” said CEO and founder Winnie Ntshaba.

Out of the eighteen categories awarded, seventeen of which were adjudicated by a panel of judges. Seven categories covered creative and technical aspects while the rest recognised achievements in acting.

The seventeenth category was left in the hands of the public as they chose Most Popular Soapie of the Year. The eighteenth category, Lifetime Achievement in the South African Soap Opera Industry was awarded by Royalty Soapie Awards EXCO to a person that has contributed significantly throughout his or her career to the development, upliftment and advancement of the soapie (small screen) industry.

Mzansi Magic’s Isibaya swooped up a total of four wins out of twenty nominations, following closely and with three wins each was Binnelanders and Isidingo.

The playing field was levelled as most soap operas that participated walked away with a win.

Anga Makubalo aka Naakmusiq Isidingo

Actor Anga Makubalo, better known as Naakmusiq has made his debut return on the SABC 3 soapie Isidingo tonight. The actor plays a role of Obakeng, Nina’s son (played by Khabonina Qubeka).

The 30-year-old Port Elizabeth-born star is back to spice things up in Horizon Deep.

Isidingo publicist Yvonne Siphuka told Drum that viewers can expect a lot surprises of as Obakeng could be back for various reasons, they should keep watching the show to find out more.

Catherine also confirmed to Daily Sun that Naakmusiq is indeed back in the Horizon Deep.

“Yes, I can confirm that Anga is making a comeback tonight and he is back to stay. We are very excited to have him back on the show and we can’t wait to see how the show’s viewers welcome him,” she said.

Television and stage actress Nokuthula Mavuso has hinted on social media that she is expecting a baby. She posted a tweet where she revealed there’s a certain “occupant” in her belly.

Her fans couldn’t hold their excitement and started congratulating her. The Abomama actress was also congratulated by actress Terry Pheto, in which she replied with gratitude and hearts.

The Queen actress Rami Chuene also congratulated the former Rhythm City star, saying: “Wa reng naaa? This is incredible news, I’m so happy for you. May the journey be joyous and ful- filling, what, with the 7 colors! The belly occupant deserves it (sic).”

Actress Phindile Gwala joins the cast of Uzalo

Phindile Gwala joins Uzalo

Actress Phindile Gwala is set to make her debut on South Africa’s most watched soapie Uzalo. Phindile is best known for her role on SABC2 drama Muvhango.

The actress left Muvhango last year after being on the show for five years. Her bubbly personality became a household name.

Gwala also appeared on other local shows and films where stared beside well-known comedienne and actress, Celeste Ntuli in the film Looking for Love.

According to Isolezwe, Gwala will play the role of Diniwe, a twin to Lady D, played by actress Khanyi Mbau. Diniwe is set to be the adversary to Dawn Thandeka King’s character, MaNgcobo.

Besides acting, Gwala is also a businesswoman. She opened a Shisa Nyama and a car wash spot with her Congolese model husband, Armando Ngandu. Their car wash called Lotha’s Car Wash, is located in Wynberg, north of Johannesburg.

Phindile will make her Uzalo debut on the 15th November 2018 at 20:30, SABC1.

The former Muvhango actress, who tragically lost her husband Dumi Masilela in a shooting during a botched car hijacking a year ago in Tembisa, also released new music from her late husband Dumi’s posthumous album title is Eternal Crush.

The 27-year-old also said in one of her Instagram posts that she will keep her late husband’s dreams come true. “For as long as I’m still alive, I will continue to make your dreams come true, only because they are mine too,” – she said.

Cricket legend Makhaya Ntini on Isidingo

Cricket legend Makhaya Ntini is set to appear on the popular SABC3 soapie Isidingo. The retired cricket player was the first ethnically black player to play for the South African team.

According to Isidingo publicist Catherine, the star will appear as himself and will be visiting Horizon Deep with the T20 trophy. It’s been reported that he has already started shooting his scenes.

In a video posted on Instagram by actress Soso Rungqu, the former cricketer can be seen holding a script at Sasani studios where Isidingo is recorded.

“Look Who Came Onset Vandag….Ntwaaaana Yaaaaam (sic),” Soso captioned the clip.

Speaking to Daily Sun, Catherine said: “We are very excited to have him on the show and I’m sure that the show’s viewers will be delighted to see him once again.”

Catherine said. She said the show always tried to push the envelope and this was another way they were trying to do that.

The episode featuring the 41-year-old will air next week on Wednesday.
