Maftown Heights stands in solidarity with SA students

Maftown Heights has with immediate effect suspended all communication and promotion of their upcoming festival taking place in Newtown on 27 November 2015 in light of the nationwide student protests.

The primary audience at Maftown Heights yearly are university students and the organisers have expressed their desire to stand in solidarity and have a unified voice with the students in their historic approach to addressing the inequality and inaccessibility of tertiary education in the country.

Maftown Heights would like to make a public declaration to donate R10 of every ticket purchased this year and every year going forward in support of student funding. To this end the organisers are in the process of exploring and engaging various potential funding organisations such as NSFAS amongst others.

“With an expected crowd of 13 000 attendees at Maftown Heights this year, we would like to play a part in supporting our primary market with a small, yet much needed gesture to assist in breaking the obstacles that lie in front of students who face financial exclusion or are unable to get into university on financial grounds. We hope to see other people in the creative arts and private sector at large donating whatever little bit they can as well” expresses Dream Team SA Director and co-founder of Maftown Heights, Refiloe Ramogase.

A breath-taking first Semi Finals of SA’s Got Talent 2015

SAGT 2015 final

By Moeketsi Thatho

The first set of 2015 SA’s Got Talent Semi-finals has come and gone. Emotions and high drama dominated the show at the Soweto Theatre on Sunday 18 October with fan votes deciding who goes to the finals and who doesn’t.
It was a tightly-contested affair as all 7 acts put in an exhilarating performance in search of a final spot on the 8th of November.

After a series of mind-blowing acts, Cape Town dance group, ‘Street Stylers’ impressed the voters as they claimed the first spot of the finalists’ bench. The boys from the Mother City impressed the country with more than just their talents; their ambition to also open a community dance workshop touched the hearts of many South Africans. Although if it had been left up to one of the judges, Lalla, the boys would have had to go back and do more rehearsing before perhaps trying again next year.

The second spot had to be decided by the judges and therefore after a tie between the two lady-judges, DJ Fresh ensured that it was a young Henno Williams who put one past the fan favourite-Amanda to claim his seat on the finalists’ bench.

The second line-up

The line-up for the second set of semi-finals looks to be as powerful, if not more-so than the first one. SA’s Got Talent is exclusive to and HD every Sunday evening at 6PM. The live results show will air at 7:30PM on the same night. HD is available on OpenView HD on channel 104. Send your favourite acts to the final by voting.
