Top Gear team takes on some off-road toys and tests the all new McLaren 720S

McLaren 720S Top Gear

Join Top Gear team Matt LeBlanc and Chris Harris as they head into the Californian woods to test some amazing off-road toys such as dune buggies, dirt bikes and even personal tanks – and hunt for Big Foot.

Rory Reid invents the sport of reverse camera racing, while Chris puts the new McLaren 720S to the test to see if it’ll match up to its brother, the McLaren P1. Real race transponders were used in order to gain accurate lap times during this segment while the track temperature later in the day rose to a sweltering 37 degrees! All in a day’s work for the Top Gear team, this week they are joined in-studio by guest, comedian Lee Mack.

A few years back, Chris Harris was the first journalist to bring together, on a single racetrack, the three fastest hypercars of the modern era: of McLaren P1, LaFerrari and Porsche 918. That track, specifically, was Portimão, on Portugal’s Algarve coast. The fastest of the trio, in Harris’s annoyingly able mitts, was the McLaren.

TV highlights for Rhino Blog for the week February 26 to March 4

The world’s rhinos are in trouble and award-winning wildlife television presenter Bonné de Bod is on a quest to find out why and more importantly, what’s being done.

RHINO BLOG: Drug Trials
Monday, February 26, at 10.45 with repeats every two hours
People’s Weather (DStv Channel 180)
Rhinos are difficult to manage without some sort of help from drugs. Vets realised that a partial anaesthetic could be applied to rhinos and they would still be able to move under their own steam. This made it invaluable for vets and nature reserve managers to dart wild rhinos and then have the ability to relocate them. The downside is that white rhinos are particularly susceptible to anaesthetic, and the Kruger National Park’s vets and scientists have been conducting ground-breaking anaesthetic trials on test subjects to lessen the risk of anaesthetics for rhinos. Over the past two years, presenter Bonné de Bod has been following these tests and she gets invited to the scientist’s most recent trial.

RHINO BLOG: Dr Jane Goodall

I was In the Closet – Mzansi’s first TV LGBTI show

I was In the Closet – Mzansi’s first TV LGBTI show Reverend Doctor Tebo Moema

I was in the Closet’ is a new TV show aimed at addressing issues in the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender/transsexual and intersexed (LGBTI) community in South Africa, as well as creating a safe platform for people to speak about their experiences.

According to Channel24, the host of the show, Reverend Doctor Tebo Moema, says the show was inspired by attitudes towards the LGBTI community.

“I think this negative notion is informed by different cultures and religions and people needed a different voice to disrupt the human thinking,” he says.

Openly homosexual and having come out to his family and friends 20 years ago, Dr Moema says criticism is nothing new to him. “I have been told I am the devil’s advocate, a false prophet but I am strong enough and sober enough to understand,” he says.

Dr Moema has been a victim of discrimination and his ministry, Dominion Life, has come under fire. “The church should be a school of love. I found my liberty many years ago and I never backed down. This show will bring a big change in the attitudes of people in South Africa,” he says.

Catch I was In the Closet on Mondays at 9.30pm on GauTV (DStv channel 265).
