Local actress, Thembsie Matu, best known for her role as the bubbly Patronella on the popular Mzansi Magic telenovela The Queen, has been honoured by The City of Ekurhuleni.

Matu is also best knon for her recurring role as Zinhle in the SABC3 drama television series The Lab (2006-2008), and for appearing in a popular television commercial for the insecticide Doom. She also played the role of Nomathamsanqa on the SABC1 drama series Tshisa, from 2006-2012.

Thembsie Matu was awarded the 2019 Excellence Award by the city for her incredible work. The award was presented to her by Ekurhuleni Mayor, Mzwandile Masina in Germiston.

Thembsie was born in the Ekurhuleni township of Katlehong and has been in the business since 2006.

The city says that the award was in recognition of Thembsie’s contribution and achievements in the arts.

“City of Ekurhuleni honored one of its citizen during the ordinary Council meeting as part of our ongoing endeavor to recognized our own Sis Nomathemba Matu popularly known at Patronella on the Queen (sic),” – Mzwandile Masina wrote on Instagram.

Last year, The Queen actress walked away with the favourite actress award at the second annual DSTV Mzansi Viewers Choice Awards. She also won the Ultimate Viewers Choice Award.
