FLEX RABANYAN CROWNED THE KING OF THE HUSTLE SEASON TWO

The Hustle Season2 Winner_ Flex Rabanyan

Earlier this week, we saw KwaZulu-Natal’s Flex Rabanyan (Mpumelelo Mthembu) be crowned the winner of The Hustle season two after a tightly fought contest with Johannesburg’s Josh The I Am (Joshua Pieterson).

Last year we saw many local rap and hip hop artists win over South Africans with their music but in 2017, more and more artists definitely rose to the occasion. Our artists are not only popular in the local industry, but collaborations with international artists have proven SA music to be at the forefront of African entertainment.

The Hustle Judges Khuli Chana AKA and Stogie T

“We are honoured to have been a part of this journey once again, where we are afforded an opportunity to assist in unearthing raw talent in the local music industry”, says Thabisa Mkhwanazi, KFC Corporate Affairs Director for Africa. “As a nation, we have come a long way in the local hip hop music scene and as a brand, we would like to continue to show our support and celebrate young and aspiring talent.”

Catch a repeat of The Hustle Finale on Friday, 23 June at 22:30 simulcast on VUZU (DStv channel 161) and VUZU AMP (DStv channel 103).

Økuntakinte launches his Melanin Girls Campaign in SA

Økuntakinte launches his Melanin Girls Campaign in SA

20 year old UK born, Ghanaian EDM musician, Økuntakinte, launches hisMelanin Girls Campaign in South Africa today following the highly successful debut campaign in Ghana earlier this year which caught the attention of the likes of BBC and is believed to be Ghana’s most engaging social media campaign to date having trended on social media for four consecutive days.

To join the Melanin Girls Campaign, post a selfie of yourself with the hashtag #MelaninGirlSA and tag @Okuntakinte and stand a chance to win a cash prize of R7000.

The Melanin Girls Campaign will run for the next 7 days thereafter Økuntakinte will select the winning selfie at random and announcement the winner on 14 October 2016 on his social media pages.

With the recent race challenges facing South Africa, Økuntakinte’s Melanin Girls Campaign aims to celebrate girls and women of all skin types, with the underlying message that regardless of how light or dark your skin colour is (melanin) you need to be comfortable in the skin you were born with and we need to celebrate all our “melanin” girls.

Økuntakinte’s Melanin Girls Campaign in Ghana was launched with a single of the same title. Following suit, Økuntakintehas done a remix to this single featuring South Africa’s Moonchild Sanelly. The #MelaninGirlsRemix single is available on all major digital platforms globally and has started enjoying rotation on South African radio with a music video to follow suit.

“The song Melanin Girls celebrates dark-skinned girls and is a call-to-action to embrace their beauty. It’s sort of an anti-bleaching campaign. However, the essence of the Melanin Girls Campaign is for everyone to embrace their beauty in its natural form regardless of colour. I hope the campaign will be well received by the South African audience as well as my new single and music video” expresses Økuntakinte.

LIZ OGUMBO’S #SAFARI COLLECTION – SA FASHION WEEK 2016

Liz Ogumbo

Kenyan born fashion designer Liz Ogumbo delighted the SA Fashion Week audience and the fashion fraternity with a colourful inspiring showing of her latest work entitled #Safari

Translated from Swahili into English, ‘Safari’ in this context means ‘A Journey’. This African girl is on a journey, exploring, blossoming, taking her sass, chic, style, and vibrant signature everywhere she goes.

The show took off with an intricately hand-beaded body suit, which immediately drew the fashion audience into a gaze. Followed by high-waisted slim tailored pants, collared-shirts, front-slit hi-lo dresses and skirts, Victorian-inspired bralettes for the day-to-day dames, classic fitted well-tailored cropped jackets and intricate hand-beaded- body Jewelry. Textured diffusion through the fun prints and volumetric form through the stuffed maxi & mini tiered skirts all contribute to the Safari fashion-experience.

“Through this collection, I have designed different pieces that any woman on a ‘Safari’ would be able to pack and wear for a two week holiday without compromising their personality, character, style aesthetic, mood and everything else that determines what style means to them. It’s all about looking good and feeling good as we go through our ‘Safari’ in life” expresses Liz Ogumbo.

Liz Ogumbo will release the Safari music track in April 2016 and plans to continue the Safari experience with a ‘Soiree’ and a short fashion film, plus a Safari experience in New York in September.
