The movie, which debuted two weeks ago, has already grossed over R2 million rand in just eight days at the box office.

“The film has been doing really well. We reached around R900,000 in three days and it has just gotten stronger from there. We are now over R2-million. It reached it in eight days and we are happy because it took eight days to make.” – Comedian Kagiso Lediga told TshisaLIVE.

“We are already blown away by the response from people. It has done so well. It has doubled its screens and I think there will be one or two more cinemas debuting this week. It is about taking the film to places like Witbank. It is doing well in Mafikeng and even in Botswana.”

Matwetwe tells the story of two best friends who have just finished matric and have an unforgettable New Year’s Eve in Atteridgeville. Their adventures include: scoring a huge deal, dodging a kingpin gangster and winning over a girl.

Kagiso said the secret sauce behind the film’s success was that it was so authentic.

“I think there is a certain kind of authenticity around the film. It’s not like something people have seen before. I think it was well executed and unique. It is really cool that this little experiment is really paying off.”

Matwetwe is produced by the South African House music producer and DJ, Black Coffee. Kagiso directed, written and produced the movie.

Local actress and singer Rami Chuene embraces her stretch marks

The Queen actress Rami Chuene

Local actress and singer, Rami Chuene, who is best known for playing the role of Gracious Mabuza in Mzansi Magic soapie drama The Queen, has learnt to embrace her stretch marks.

ALSO READ: Rami Chuene Visits Limpopo And Donates 1000 School Shoes With Krush Goodness

Rami took to Instgaram where she posted her picture wearing red underwear. She shared how she used to hate her stretch marks, and that led to her not wearing Bikinis and even tops that will slightly show her tummy.

However, The Queen actress has now let go of the hate and she has accepted and embraced her stretch marks.

“I used to hate my stretch marks and didn’t wear bikinis at all. In fact, anything that would slightly show my tummy was a no-no. Even in my boldness I lost confidence, I became unsure and very unhappy. I got to realize that I have one body and I needed to love it and honor it. The day I accepted and embraced my stretch marks is the day I realized I carried a body of art that tells a beautiful story. I walk in confidence and in love (sic)” – Rami said.

Call me ‘Babes wa di stretchmarks mo ma side-ng!’ Women are constantly required to reach unattainable beauty standards but there’s no need because YOU as a woman, are THE ultimate beauty standard! Embrace your true-self and find the perfect fit,” – she added.

The Queen Actress Khanya Mkangisa on alleged hit and run accident

The Queen Actress Khanya Mkangisa

The Queen actress Khanya Mkhangisa has set the record straight about the recent incident that got her spending the night behind bars following an alleged hit and run incident.

ALSO READ: Actress Khanya Mkangisa Arrested After A Hit-And-Run Incident

This comes after Sunday World reported that Khanya Mkhangisa was arrested following a “high-speed car chase,” after she failed to stop after bumping into another car in Johannesburg last week.

Speaking to Mo Flava and Pearl Shongwe on Metro FM’s “The Drive” on Thursday, the 30-year-old actress confirmed the arrest but denied being involved in a hit and run.

“I was definitely not involved in a hit and run. I don’t know how this story was blown way out of proportion. I was in my complex…parking in my parking bay, I hit the car that parks next to me, left my details, so it wasn’t really a dramatic situation …It was a little scratch” – she said.

“It became a whole thing, unnecessarily. I can’t really go into detail because of the arrest and all the other things they were saying about it. But, basically, there is no case. Naturally. How is there going to be a case? Have you never hit someone’s car by mistake?”

However, the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) has confirmed to TshisaLIVE that the star was charged with reckless and negligent driving, and that the matter was heard in the Randburg Magistrate’s Court on January 18.

NPA spokesperson Phindi Louw said the docket had been handed to them by police for possible prosecution and that the prosecutor had “given instructions for further investigations”.
