Red Bull 3Style World DJ Championships, a global competition for performance DJs returns to South Africa on Friday, 08 December. The competition, which showcases the art of DJing and entertaining audiences, will hold national finals in Johannesburg at Republic of 94 at 18:00.

The first global final of Red Bull 3Style World Champs was held in Paris in 2010. It has since served as a great global platform for performance DJs to entertain music fans and impress legendary judges with the hopes of becoming the World Champ. Six pre-selected finalists will battle it out on the 8th of December. Each DJ gets 15 minutes and must play at least 3 different genres of music in order to be crowned the champion and represent South Africa in Krakow, Poland early next year.

The SA final will boast participants from three major South African cities. Ameeth Shah and DJ Eighty6 both hail from Durban. DJ J-Efx and DJ Tekneek from Cape Town and Ryan the DJ and DJ Shameless from Johannesburg. The DJs need to make sure their style is fresh, their music selection is next-level and have the kind of technical skills that leave the crowd in awe, as this is what determines the judging criteria, together with the crowd response.

The Red Bull 3Style South African champion, along with the other national winners from around the world, plus 3 global wildcards, will then make their way to Krakow, Poland for an all-expenses-paid trip to participate in the 2018 Red Bull 3Style World DJ Championships.

National Finals have been taking place around the world since September. Several countries have already selected their top six regional finalists, including Italy, Switzerland, the Czech Republic, Netherlands and France.

The 2017 South African judging panel includes DJ Byte who won the World Champs in 2015 and DJ Karve from Paris who was the first ever World Champion in 2010. Representing South Africa on the panel we have Tha Cutt who one Red Bull 3Style South Africa in 2012 and the legendary Ready D, who has helped pave the way for turntablism and the art of DJing to South Africans since the late 80s.

Skolopad wants retweets to leave nudity in 2017

Skolopad wants retweets to leave nudity

In her recent interview with TshisaLIVE, socialite Skolopad told the publication that she was willing consider changing things up only if she received enough retweets during her campaign. Skolopad found her name among the hilarious Twitter trend, #101ThingsToBeLeftIn2017.

Skolopad said that she thought about the campaign after she got hundreds of complimentary comments when she shared pictures of herself in a more covered up look.

“People saw pictures of me in normal clothes the other day and went crazy but they forget that I always said I am three in one. Nonhlanhla and Skolopad are different. But I now have a great team of people trying out new things with me and if I get a couple of thousands retweets when I ask if I should leave “nudity” in 2017, then I might think about it.”

Skolopad said instead of being upset that some people suggested she should remain in 2017, she wants to use the opportunity to accelerate her success.

“I love who I have become to some women. A symbol of a free woman who embraces her body, but at the same time all great artists reinvent themselves when there’s a need and I’ve been having fun with different look. The need for my career to thrive as an entertainer and musician, means I will try anything as long as there’s enough support to do so.”

ROUGE Releases New Single – Dololo Ft. Bigstar

ROUGE – Dololo Ft. Bigstar

Following the succesful release of her album The New Era Sessions and her latest single Deja Vu, still charting on several radio stations, Rouge will finally release at 10 AM this morning her latest offering titled “Dololo” as the 2nd single off her album, featuring BIGSTAR. The single is already available across all digital music platforms.

On this track already dubbed by key industry players as a next summer smash, Rouge chooses to expose those pretenders, flossing a lifestyle they clearly cannot afford while celebrating hardworking succesful sisters as only the Mongo Zaka hit-maker is able to do.

Rouge says that: “Dololo’s a fun and upbeat song about guys who like to show us nice cars but once you scratch the surface, you realize that they actually have ‘dololo’. With this track, I also want to continue to empower women to aspire to become their own CEOs rather than rely on people who have nothing to offer them”.

For Dololo”, Rouge continues her collaboration with Zambian star-producer, Mae N Maejor (No Strings) and K-Beatz from Canada, with additional production by Ron Epidemic from South Africa.

Many expect this base-filled trap smash hit to take-over our airwaves and definitely become a club favourite for summer.

Tumi Morake cleared of hate speech charges

Tumi Morake hate speech charges

The Broadcasting Complaints Commission (BCCSA) on Tuesday morning dismissed complaints that remarks made by comedian Tumi Morake constitute as hate speech.

“While it is clear that she thinks the absence of retribution (according to her) is unfair, this does not justify an inference that violence or the commission of an unlawful act is sanctioned, promoted or even glamorised,” said the commission’s deputy chair Professor Sunette Lötter.

“The complainants targeted Tumi’s comments but the discussion was engineered and shaped (to a certain extent) by her co-presenter. Both presenters, not only Tumi, were skating on thin ice. Breakfast shows should be mindful of the possible consequences when introducing sensitive matters. Once content qualifies as a matter of public interest the Code requirements in respect of broadcasts of public interest will be applicable, which position is presumably not contemplated by a broadcaster who is on its own version ‘a predominantly music station and not a talk station.'”

“You broke down a people on skin colour before you build them up. You are now saying they must just share with everybody and be friends with everybody,” Morake said on the show.

She continued: “It’s like a child whose bicycle was taken forcefully away from him, and then you say to the bully, ‘no, no, no, share the bike together, don’t be like that.'”

Tumi’s comments regarding race led to a boycott of the station as well as 55 individual complaints.

According to Huffingtonpost, one of the complainants, Le Roy Bester, said it was not the first time that Morake had “crossed the line”.

Another complainant only known as Snyman said Morake’s comments were “not promoting nation-building, but rather destroying any possibility thereof”.

“In my humble opinion I think she is over-confident… she was only 12 years old in ’94, and what serious suffering did she experience at that stage of her life?” Snyman asked.
